During the teenage years, many people can at times be difficult to talk to. They often seem to dislike being questioned. They may seem unwilling to talk about their work in school. This is a normal development at this age, though it can be very hard for parents to understand. It is part of becoming independent, of teenagers trying to be adult while they are still growing up. Young people are usually more willing to talk if they believe that questions are asked out of real interest and not because people are trying to check up on them.
Parents should do their best to talk to their son or daughter about school work and future plans but should not push them to talk if they don't want to. Parents should also watch for the danger signs: some young people in trying to be adoult may experiment with alcohol or smoking. Parents need to watch for any signs of unusual behavior which may be connected with these and get help if necessary.

1. This is from a _
a. parent's handbook b. teenage magazine c. school timetable d. children's book

4. When can you expect a young person to be more talkative than usual?
a. When people talk to them because they are really interested and not yet checking up on them.
b. When adults give them a lot of money to spend.
c. When adults talk to them about something other than their work in school.
d. When adults take to them about alcohol and smoking.

Read and fit each space

Read the passage and then decide which answer A, B, C or D best fits each space.

I always remember the toy plane that gave us so much pleasure during a sunny summer holiday on the coast of North Wales. We stood in field _
by/ at/ to/ up _ the top of the cliffs, and time _ or/ yet/ and/ but _ again we hurled the little glider towards them, into the warm sea _ wind/ draught/ water/ breeze _. It always took a similar flight path, curling upwards, looping the loop above our heads and landing in the grass _ behind/ beyond/ nearby/ among _ us.

Gradually we became more daring. Each flight _ began/ was/ flew/ traveled _ nearer the edge of cliffs, and the wind always _ brought/ took/ landed/ returned _ our little plane back. Finally, standing right at the edge, I _ thought/ decided/ commenced/ tried _ to hurl it seawards with all the power I could muster. It _ worked/ turned/ broke/ went _ out that I'd made the mistake of defying fate and the elements just once too _ frequently/ much/ many/ often _. This time the plane failed to return. It darted downwards towards the waves then leveled off a meter or two above the spray. Seagulls flew close to examine it as it _ journeyed/ floated/ flew/ made _ its unsteady way out to sea.

And that's the last I saw of it. It _ hovered/ went/ departed/ disappeared _ into the distance, with only the flock of inquisitive birds to tell me that it was _ now/ staying/ still/ yet _ in the air.

I suppose it soon came down and got torn _ open/ about/ apart/ up _, by the sea. Even so, our main _ idea/ attitude/ feeling/ sense _ as we turned for home was joy at having _ ended/ achieved/ made/ produced _ such a glorious final flight.
