To-infinitive and bare-infinitive​

A. Lí thuyết
I. Compound sentences

- Một câu ghép gồm 2 hoặc 3 mệnh đề độc lập (independent clause) hay còn gọi là những câu đơn giản được nối với nhau.

- Trong cấu trúc câu này, các mệnh đề được nối với nhau bằng liên từ (conjuntions):

F = for

A = and

N = nor

B = but

O = or

Y = yet

S = so

Từ ” FANBOYS ” là một cách viết để các bạn có thể nhớ các liên từ (conjuntions) phổ biến nhất một cách dễ dàng, đây là các liên từ khác nhau để tạo nên câu ghép (Còn rất nhiều liên từ khác nữa nhé ).

Example:

- Playing video game is fun, but it can be dangerous too.

- The concert hall has a large stage, so there is enough room for many performers to play at the same time.

II. To-infinitive and bare-infinitive

1. To-infinitive

* Động từ nguyên mẫu có to được dùng làm:

- Chủ ngữ của câu:

Eg: To become a famous singer is her dream.

- Bổ ngữ cho chủ ngữ:

Eg: What I like is to swim in the sea and then to lie on the warm sand.

- Tân ngữ của động từ

Ex: It was late, so we decided to take a taxi home.

- Tân ngữ của tính từ

Ex: I’m pleased to see you.

* V + to-inf :

- Sau các động từ: Agree , appear, afford, ask, demand, expect, hesitate, intend, invite, want, wish, hope, promise, decide, tell, refuse, learn, fail (thất bại), plan, manage, pretend (giả vờ), remind, persuade, encourage, force, order, urge (thúc giục), seem, tend, threaten,…

- Trong các cấu trúc:

+ It takes / took + O + thời gian + to-inf

+ chỉ mục đích

+ S + V + Noun / pronoun + to-inf

Eg:
- I have some letters to write.

- Is there anything to eat?

+ It + be + adj + to-inf: thật … để ..

Ex: It is interesting to study English

+ S + be + adj + to-inf

Ex: I’m happy to receive your latter.

+ S + V + too + adj / adv + to-inf

+ S + V + adj / adv + enough + to-inf

+ S + find / think / believe + it + adj + to-inf

Ex: I find it difficult to learn English vocabulary.

- Sau các từ nghi vấn: what, who, which, when, where, how ,… (nhưng thường không dùng sau why)

Ex: I don’t know what to say.

* Adj + to-inf:

- Hình thức nguyên mẫu có to thường được dùng sau một số tính từ diễn tả phản ứng hoặc cảm xúc của con người

(un)able / delighted / proud / glad
ashamed / afraid / eager / surprised
anxious / pleased / amused / easy
annoyed / happy / ready

- allow / permit/ advise / recommend + O + to-inf

Ex: She allowed me to use her pen.

- be allowed / permitted + to-inf

Ex: I was allowed to go out with my friends last night.

2. Bare infinitive

Động từ nguyên mẫu không to được dùng:

- Sau động từ khiếm khuyết: can, will, shall, could, would,…

- Sau các động từ: let, make, would rather, had better
Ex: They made him repeat the whole story.

- Các động từ chỉ tri giác: hear, sound, smell, taste, feel, watch, notice, see, listen, find .. + O + V1 (toàn bộ sự việc)

Ex: I saw her get off the bus.

- Help + to-inf / bare-inf / with + N

Ex: He usually helps his sister to do her homework.

He usually helps his sister do her homework.

He usually helps his sister with her homework.

Irregular past tense verbs​

Adjective suffixes: -ed vs. -ing ; -ful vs. -less​

A. Lí thuyết

I. The Past Simple vs. The Past Continuous with when and while

- Diễn tả một hành động đang xảy ra, một hành động khác xen vào.

- Hành động đang xảy ra: thì Quá khứ tiếp diễn

- Hành động xen vào: thì Quá khứ đơn

Example:

· When I got home, my father was watching TV.

· While we were having dinner, he came.

II. Irregular past tense verbs

(Sử dụng Bảng động từ bất quy tắc)

III. Adjective suffixes: -ed vs. -ing ; -ful vs. -less

- Tính từ có đuôi "ed" như "bored", "frightened" được dùng để miêu tả ai cảm thấy như thế nào.

Example: I was really bored during the flight.

- Tính từ đuôi "ing" như "boring", "interesting", "frightening" được dùng để miêu tả ai, cái gì mang lại cảm giác như thế nào cho đối tượng khác hoặc miêu tả bản chất của ai

Example:

+) It was such a long, boring flight.

+) She is an interesting girl.

- Thông thường, chỉ con người mới cảm thấy điều gì (tương ứng với cách dùng của tính từ đuôi "ed") và sự vật thì mang lại cảm giác cho con người (tương ứng với cách dùng của tính từ đuôi "ing")
