1. Từ, cụm từ kết hợp với gerunds:
- have trouble / have difficulty: gặp khó khăn khi làm gì
Ex: I have trouble / have difficulty finding his house.
- spend time: bỏ thời gian làm gì
Ex: Sam spends most of his time studying.
- stand + [place]: đứng ở đâu để làm gì
Ex: I stood there wondering what to do next.
- sit + [place]: ngồi ở đâu để làm gì
Ex: She sat at her desk writing a letter.
- be afraid of: sợ hãi phải làm gì
Ex: He is afraid of losing job.
- be proud of: tự hào khi làm gì
Ex: She was proud of helping old people.

2. Từ, cụm từ kết hợp với infinitives:
- be surprised to: ngạc nhiên khi làm gì
Ex: I have been surprised to receive the result.
- be sorry to: lấy làm tiếc khi làm gì
Ex: We were sorry to break your favorite cup.
- agree to: đồng ý làm gì
Ex: They agreed to help us.

Infinitives and Gerunds (V-ing) {Tiếp theo}​

1. Từ, cụm từ kết hợp với cả gerunds lẫn infinitives nhưng không khác nhau về nghĩa:
- begin/start: bắt đầu làm việc gì
Ex: It began to rain. = It began raining.
- continue: tiếp tục làm gì
Ex: I continued to work. = I continued working.
- like/love/prefer: ưa thích làm gì
Ex: He likes to play soccer. = He likes playing soccer.
- hate: ghét làm gì
Ex: She hates to walk home alone. = She hates walking home alone.
- can't stand/bear: không chịu được khi phải làm gì
Ex: He can't stand to lose the job. = He can't stand losing the job.
*Lưu ý: Nếu động từ chính ở dạng tiếp diễn thì không dùng V-ing mà dùng to infinitive
Ex: It was begining to rain.

2. Luyện tập: (Viết tất cả các dạng động từ phù hợp để điền vào chỗ trống)

1. Cách sử dụng từ 'need':
- need + to infinitive: cần phải (nghĩa chủ động)
Ex: You need to repair your house.
- need + V-ing: cần được (nghĩa bị động)
Ex: Your house needs painting.
*Lưu ý: Need to be + V-PII có dạng chủ động nhưng mang nghĩa bị động.
Ex: Your house needs to be painted.
