How would you write today’s date in figures? Current practice varies considerably and a “great debate” is now in attempt (1) to establish a (2) universally acceptable methods. In Britain person/one (3) usually puts the day first (4), followed by the month and then the year, but (5) in Amercia it’s the other way round (6), so that the nineteenth of June 1984 woud be written 6-10-84.
Because(7) such variations can lead (8) confusion in the computerized international world of industry, businessmen are now pressing for (9) a uniform procedure for the numerical writing of dates. The problem is which(10) country’s method should(11) be adopted? Britain’s, America’s or something dreamed up (12) by a committee? Understandably, no(13) country is all naturally (14) Keen to give up it’s living (15) tradition and adopt somebody else’s. The French International Organisation for Sandardisation has come up with a possible solution. It proposes that the (16) numerically written dates should appear in descending sequence/order(17) with the year first, then the month and finally (18) the day. The drawback here is that not (19) any countries seem in favour of this idea and the majority are most properly (20) to implement it.
