I. The past simple
1. Cấu trúc
(+) S + V_ed/ - cột 2 trong bảng Động từ bất quy tắc.
(-) S + didn't + V

2. Cách dùng
+ Diễn tả một hành động đã được hoàn thành trong quá khứ và không còn liên quan đến hiện tại. Các trạng từ đi kèm: yesterday, ago, last week,....
Eg: Yesterday, I went to the market
+ Diễn tả một thói quen trong quá khứ hoặc một tình trạng trong quá khứ. Trong trường hợp này thường có trạng từ chỉ thời gian đi kèm
Eg: I always got up late in the morning when I was young (Chỉ thói quen)
I lived in that village for a long time (Chỉ tình trạng)

II. The simple past tense with "wish"
1. Cấu trúc
$S_1 + wish/wishes + (that) + S_2 + V_{past}$
2. Cách dùng
Diễn tả sự hối tiếc hay những điều mà chúng ta muốn thay đổi ở hiện tại
Eg: I wish I had a big house (In fact, I have a small house)
3. Chú ý
Khi động từ sau wish là động từ to be, ta có cấu trúc
$S_1 + wish/wishes + S_2 + were ... $
Không dùng "was" như thì QKĐ
Eg: I wish I were a teacher (In fact, I am a officer now)

Dạng 1: Điền từ
Dạng 2: Trả lời câu hỏi
I. Sơ lược về đọc hiểu
Dạng 1: Điền từ
Khi làm bài tập này ta cần xác định:
- Từ cần điền thuộc loại từ nào: danh từ, động từ, tính từ, trạng từ hay giới từ
- Trong các từ đã cho dưới dạng A, B, C, D từ nào hợp lí về ý nghĩa cũng như cấu trúc ngữ pháp
- Nhớ 1 số thành ngữ thông dụng cũng là lợi ích khi làm bài tập này
Xét VD sau:
Dear Linda,
It was nice to get your letter. I intend to write to you ____(1)_____ a long time, but I'm not very good at ___(2)___ in touch.
Sau khi đọc đoạn văn, hãy viết ngay những từ bạn đã nghĩ trước khi chọn đáp án. Điều này sẽ giúp bạn 1 phần nào không "phân tâm" trong các câu trắc nghiệm A, B, C, D cũng như cách phản xạ nhanh khi bạn gặp đề không có phần A, B, C, D
1. A. for B. on C. in D. at
2. A. kept B. keep C. to keep D. keeping
Answer: - Chỗ trống (1) cần điền giới từ diễn tả thời gian kéo dài của hành động nên đáp án là A. for
- Chỗ trống (2) đứng sau một danh từ nên có dạng danh từ hoặc V_ing. Dựa vào đề ta chọn D. keeping

Dạng 2: Trả lời câu hỏi
Để làm bài đọc hiểu quả, bạn cần có vốn từ vựng phong phú và vững chắc.
Khi làm bài đọc hiểu, ta lướt qua bài đọc 1 lần rồi đọc kĩ câu hỏi sau đó quay lại bài đọc để tìm thông tin cần trả lời.
Các câu hỏi trong bài tập đọc hiểu thường có các dạng sau:
- Tìm ý chính của đoạn văn
- Tìm kiếm nội dung cụ thể trong bài
- Rút ra kết luận từ nội dung bài đọc
a) Dạng bài Đúng-Sai
Trong các bài đọc hiểu thường có từ 4-5 câu hỏi dạng trắc nghiệm đúng-sai. Để làm bài tập dạng này hiệu quả chúng ta cũng áp dụng các phương pháp chung của kỹ năng đọc hiểu:
- Đọc lướt bài đọc trước.
- Đọc kỹ ý kiến được nêu ra, xác định từ chìa khóa của câu.
- Quay lại bài đọc và tìm nhanh thông tin tương ứng. Đọc kỹ (các) câu chứa thông tin tương ứng.
b) Dạng trả lời câu hỏi tự luận
Bài tập đọc hiểu dạng này yêu cầu người làm bài tự trả lời các câu hỏi dựa trên nội dung bài đọc. Bài tập dạng này thường yêu cầu: phải trả lời câu hỏi dạng đầy đủ chủ ngữ vị ngữ, không trả lời ngắn.
c) Dạng bài đọc và chọn đáp án đúng
Bài tập đọc hiểu dạng này gần giống dạng bài đọc và trả lời câu hỏi, tuy nhiên các câu trả lời được cho dưới dạng đa lựa chọn nên bạn không cần tự viết lại mà chỉ cần chọn đáp án thích hợp nhất.
