A. Lí thuyết

I. Modal "Could" with "Wish" (Động từ khuyết thiếu "Could" trong câu ước

S1 + wish +( that ) + S2 + could + verb (inf.)​

- Chúng ta có thể dùng “COULD" ở mệnh đề chỉ ước muốn (“WISH” clause) hoặc thì quá khứ giả định (past subjunctive) để diễn tả ước muốn điều gì khác biệt ở hiện tại.

- "COULD" thường được dùng chỉ khả năng.

II. The Past Simple with "Wish" (Thì Quá Khứ Đơn với câu ước)

S + wish + (that) + S + V (past simple)
​

Note:
- Đây là câu ước diễn tả 1 điều ước về một việc gì đó không có thực ở hiện tại.
- Với động từ to be, dùng were cho tất cả các ngôi. Tuy nhiên trong văn nói vẫn có thể dùng was.

Example:
+) I wish I had a car. (Tôi ước tôi có một cái ô tô.)
Thực tế: I don't have a car.
+) He wishes it were not raining. (Tôi ước trời đang không mưa.)
Thực tế: It is rainning.
+) I wish I were a doctor. (Tôi ước tôi là một bác sĩ.)
Thực tế: I am not a doctor.
