Nobody is forever young. It means we will get older and older as time goes by. In fact, it is expected that there will be higher proportion of older people in some countries. Many people say that this will cause negative factors for our society. However, have you ever thought that sometimes we need to look at life from a different perspective? As far as I’m concerned, the higher proportion of older people in some countries is not bad. Even it bring spositive effects to the global development.
Firstly, the number of unemployed people is raising at an alarming rate in many developing countries whereas some developed countries with aging populations are facing a lack of the labour force. They seem to be insolvable problems but every cloud has a silver lining. On the positive side, the shortages of labour in some countries open a window of opportunity for unemployed people in other ones. Countries which have high proportions of older people can take advantage of the cheap immigrant labour force instead of paying high salaries to their old workers. Hence, both global unemployment and shortages of labour force can be solved.
Secondly, many people think old people are useless. They even consider old people as burdens to the society. Obviously, they are completely wrong. Who says old people can’t devote the rest of their lives to the development? They even can do prodigious things that young people find them very difficult to do. President Ho Chi Minh is a real example. He has devoted his whole life to fight for national independence, prosperity and happiness of Vietnamese people. In 1960, he was elected as chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam when he was 70 years old. Besides, there are a lot of other old people who have been contributing to global development. It’s perfectly clear that old people play an important role in the society’s development.
In summary, in life, there is something good that isn’t recognized at first. The important thing is how we face and deal with problems. Many problems seem very difficult but they can become solutions to other ones. Thus, I think the higher proportion of older people in some countries is also positive development.
