1. Công thức
Đối với động từ thường:
(+) I /we/you/they + V(nguyên thể)
He/ she/it + V(thêm “s” hoặc “es”)
(-) I /we /you /they + don’t + V(nguyên thể)
He /she /it + doesn’t + V(nguyên thể)
(?) Do + I /we/you/they + V(nguyên thể) ?
Does + he/she/it + V(nguyên thể) ?
Đối với động từ “tobe”:
(+) I + am…
we/you/they + are …
He/she/it + is…
(-) I + am not…
we/you/they + aren’t …
He/she/it + isn’t…
(?) Am I ….?
Are we/you/they …?
Is he/ she/ it….?
2. Cách sử dụng
- Thì hiện tại dùng để diễn tả một sự việc xảy ra liên tục hay là có tính chất lặp đi lặp lại như một thói quen (ví dụ a, b), một sự thật hiển nhiên luôn luôn đúng (ví dụ c và d).
3. Ví dụ:
a. I usually get up at 6 a.m.
b. He smokes.
c. Most river flow into the sea.
d. The earth goes round the sun.
e. Jane doesn’t drink tea very often.
f. Does your sister often play tennis?
g. Are you a student?
4. Các trạng ngữ thường dùng: thường là các trạng từ chỉ tần suất: always, usually, often, sometimes, frequently, occasionally, seldom, rarely…
5. Động từ
Sau ngôi thứ 3 số ít, động từ được thêm “s” hoặc “es”
- Các động từ thêm “s” được bắt đầu bằng phụ âm: k, t, gh, p…
Ví dụ: talks, starts, stops, laughs…
- Các động từ thêm “es” có tận cùng bằng các âm: o, ch, sh, ss, x…
Ví dụ: goes, watches, finishes, misses, boxes…
Những động từ có tận cùng bằng “y”, phải đổi “y” thành “i” trước khi thêm “es’
fly – flies
carry – carries
Chú ý: cách phát âm phần thêm “s” hoặc “es”: có 3 cách như sau:
- phát âm là /s/ sau t, k, p, gh
- phát âm là /z/ sau l, n, r, e, y, o…
- phát âm là /iz/ sau ch, sh, ss, x

2. Cách sử dụng
- Thì hiện tại hoàn thành tiếp diễn diễn tả hành động đang xảy ra tại thời điểm nói (ví dụ a, b) hoặc hành động xảy ra xung quanh thời điểm nói (ví dụ c).
3. Ví dụ:
a. Please don’t make so much noise. I’m studying.
b. Look at the sun, it is shining brightly.
c. We learn maths every Monday afternoon, but this afternoon we are learning English.
d. It isn’t raining now.
e. Are you listening to the radio?
4. Các trạng ngữ thường dùng: now, at present, at the moment….
5. Một số động từ không được dùng với thì tiếp diễn
want like belong know suppose

forget prefer hear believe understand
seem have (với nghĩa là “sở hữu”)
think (với nghĩa là “tin”)
6. Cách thêm “ing” vào sau động từ
- Thêm “ing” trực tiếp:
Ví dụ: learn – learning
play – playing
study – studying
- bỏ “e” ở cuối từ và thêm “ing”
Ví dụ: shine – shining
live – living
Ngoại lệ: see – seeing
agree – agreeing
age – ageing
dye – dyeing
- nếu động từ kết thúc bằng một phụ âm nhưng đằng trước nó là một nguyên âm (e,o, i, u, a) thì phải nhân đôi phụ âm trước khi thêm “ing”
Ví dụ: run – running
sit - sitting
admit – admitting
travel – travelling
Bài tập 1: Chia dạng đúng của các động từ trong ngoặc
1. Excuse me, you (speak) English?
2. Excuse me but you (sit) in my place. – Oh, I am very sory.
3. I am sorry. I (not/ understand). Please, speak slowly.
4. Can I borrow your pen or you (use) it at the moment?
5. Ann usually (do) the shopping but today I (do) it.
6. Who (make) that terrible noise? It’s Nam.
7. He (practise) the guitar.
8. My brother (visit) HCM city twice a year.
9. When winter (come), they usually (go) skiing.
10. Most of my villagers (have) busy time now. They (gather) their crops.

Bài tập 2: Viết hoàn thành bức thư sau:
Dear Dad,
1. It/ 11 o’clock now/ and/ I/ still/ sitting /my flat.
2. I/ watching/ TV/ it/ New York/ and/ it/ snowing.
3. I/ happy/ because/ I/ not/ in New York.
4. I/ living/ London/ now/ and/ hate/ snow.
5. London/ both/ exciting/ interesting.
6. I/ have/ new/ friend/ name/ Peter.
7. We/ living/ same flat/ learning/ same/ college.
