After being established on June 15, 1977, UNESCO Viet Nam became one of 198 UNESCO national commissions around the world. It helps to maintain international peace and security by encouraging cooperation between countries in culture, education, and sciences. UNESCO is important to Vietnamese people and is significant for the country’s socio-economic development.

Its effective programmes it has carried out in the country include education for sustainable development, and protection of cultural and natural heritages in Viet Nam. UNESCO also acknowledged Viet Nam’s efforts to maintain our country’s cultural, educational and scientific values and our help to enrich the world with its cultural heritage treasures.

Viet Nam is willing to join other countries in contributing more to the action programmes of UNESCO, and the cooperation between UNESCO and Viet Nam in recent years has made progress as its many programmes have been carried out effectively.

We hope that UNESCO will increase its support for Vietnamese UNESCO agencies.
