The painted sculpture of Queen Nefertiti, wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten, is considered one of the prime examples of Egyptian art. The bust survived World War II, hidden in a salt mine and is displayed at the Neues Museum in Berlin.
The bust is one of the artifacts that Egypt requires to return to its home country, as many pieces have been stolen, sold illegally or given away in the past.
The German authorities do not intend to return the object because they claim that the piece would not survive the trip as it is too old and delicate.
