Đảo ngữ trong cầu điều kiện là gì?
Đảo ngữ là hình thức đảo ngược vị trí thông thường của chủ ngữ và động từ trong câu để nhấn mạnh một thành phần hay ý nào đó trong câu.

Đảo ngữ trong câu điều kiện được áp dụng cho mệnh đề “If” với các chữ “should” trong câu loại 1, “were” trong câu loại 2 và “had” trong câu loại 3. Các từ này được đảo lên trước chủ ngữ để thay thế cho “If”. Trong thực tế, ta thường thấy đảo ngữ ở câu điều kiện loại 2 và 3 hơn là câu loại 1.

Cấu trúc và cách sử dụng đảo ngữ trong câu điều kiện
Công thức và cách dùng đảo ngữ trong câu điều kiện loại 1
Công thức:

• Câu điều kiện: If + S1 + V (hiện tại), S2 + will/may/might/should/can… + V (infinitive)
• Câu đảo ngữ: Should + S1 + (not)+ V (hiện tại), S2 + will/may/might/should/can… + V (infinitive)

Ví dụ: If you should hear the fire alarm, leave the building at once. Should you hear the fire alarm, leave the building at once.

Nếu bạn nghe tiếng báo động cháy nổ, hãy rời khỏi tòa nhà ngay tức khắc.

If anybody should phone me, please tell them I'm busy. Should anybody phone me, please tell them I'm busy.

Cách dùng: Dùng để chỉ tình huống có thể xảy ra ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai.

• Nếu trong câu có “should” ở mệnh đề if, thì đảo “should” lên đầu câu

• Nếu trong câu không có “should”, chúng ta phải mượn “should”

Cấu trúc và cách sử dụng đảo ngữ trong câu điều kiện loại 2
Cấu trúc:

• Câu điều kiện: If + S1 + V (quá khứ), S2 + would/might/could… + V (infinitive)
• Câu đảo ngữ: Were + S1 + (not) + O, S2 + would/might/could… + V (infinitive)

Ví dụ: If I were you, I wouldn't do that. Were I you, I wouldn't do that. Nếu tôi là bạn, tôi sẽ không làm điều đó.

Cách sử dụng: Dùng để chỉ tình huống giả định, không thể xảy ra ở hiện tại, không có thực ở hiện tại.

• Nếu trong câu có động từ “were”, thì đảo “were” lên đầu.

If I were a bird, I would fly. → Were I a bird, I would fly. They would answer me if they were here. → Were they here, they would answer me.

• Nếu trong câu không có động từ “were” thì mượn “were’ và dùng “ to V”

If I learnt Russian, I would read a Russian book. → Were I to learn Russian, I would read a Russian book.

If they lived in Australia now, they would go swimming. → Were they to live in Australia now, they would go swimming.

Cách dùng và cấu trúc đảo ngữ trong câu điều kiện loại 3
Cấu trúc:

• Câu điều kiện: If + S1 + had + past participle, S2 + would/might/could… + have + past participle
• Câu đảo ngữ: Had + S1 + (not) + past participle, S2 + would/might/could… + have + past participle

Ví dụ: If they had realized the danger, they would have done it differently. Had they realized the danger, they would have done it differently. Nếu như họ nhận thức được sự nguy hiểm, họ đã làm khác đi.

Cách dùng: Diễn tả tình huống trái thực tế trong quá khứ.

• Đảo trợ động từ của thì quá khứ hoàn thành.

If it had rained yesterday, we would have stayed at home. → Had it rained yesterday, we would have stayed at home.

If he had trained hard, he would have won the match. → Had he trained hard, he would have won the match. Had it not been so late, we would have called you.

• Câu điều kiện loại 3 đặc biệt đi với đại từ “it” đầu câu (giống trường hợp If it were not for N, S+ would V của điều kiện loại 2). If it hadn’t been for + N (Nếu không phải vì....)
• Tách “had” ra khỏi “not” đảo lên đầu câu thay “If”.

Eg: If it hadn’t been for hot weather, we would have had a wonderful holiday. --> Had it not been for ....

Eg; If she had driven carefully, she wouldn’t have cause the accident. --> If she were to have driven .... Đảo “were” lên đầu câu thay “If” --> Were she to have driven

Một số điều cần lưu ý khi đảo ngữ câu điều kiện trong tiếng anh
Note 1: to be + going to V / to V / about to V / bound to V / due to V ... : sắp, định phải làm gì. was / were + going to V / to V / about to V / bound to V / due to V ... : định làm gì trong quá khứ nhưng lại không làm được.

Note 2:

• Câu điều kiện loại 1 ở mệnh đề if ko chỉ là hiện tại đơn.
• Câu điều kiện loại 1 tổng quát là if clause ở hiện tại đơn. Main clause S+ will/can/may/should/must + V.
• Ngoài ra trong câu điều kiện loại 1 ở if clause còn có dạng: If + present continous/ present perfect tùy vào việc ta muốn nhấn mạnh cái gì (có thể là nhấn mạnh kết quả hoặc có thể là nhấn mạnh sự việc đang xảy ra).

Eg: If you have finished the test, you can go home. If you are working, I'll phone you later.

• Đối với cả ba loại câu điều kiện khi đảo ngữ, nếu mệnh đề IF là phủ định thì ta đặt NOT sau chủ từ.

Ví dụ: If you don’t believe what I said, ask your mother. Should you not believe what I said, ask your mother.

Nếu bạn không tin tưởng điều mà tôi nói, hãy hỏi mẹ của bạn đi.

If she were not shy, she would have a good time at the party. Were she not shy, she would have a good time at the party.

Công thức tổng quát : Cụm từ với “Only” + trợ động từ + S + V…

1. Only then (chỉ đến lúc đó)
Ex:Only then did I understand the problem.
(Chỉ một lúc sau tôi đã hiểu được vấn đề).

2. Only in this/ that way (chỉ bằng cách này/ đó)
Ex:Only in that way can we expect to succeed in reaching the set targets.
(Chỉ bằng cách đó chúng ta có thể mong đợi để thành công trong việc đạt được các mục tiêu đề ra)

3. Only by + Ving/ Noun (chỉ bằng cách)
Ex:Only by practicing English every day can you speak it fluently.
(Chỉ bằng cách luyện tập tiếng Anh hàng ngày bạn mới có thể nói trôi chảy được).

4. Only with + Noun (chỉ với)
Ex:Only with the full agreement of everyone can we hope to succeed.
(Chỉ với sự đồng ý của tất cả mọi người thì chúng ta mới hy vọng thành công).

4. Only in + adv of time/ place (chỉ ở thời gian/ địa điểm)
Ex:Only in central Vietnam have I seen such scenery like that.
(Chỉ ở miền Trung Việt Nam tôi mới thấy cảnh như thế).

5. Only after + Noun/ clause (chỉ sau khi)
Ex:Only after all guests had gone home, could we relax.
(Chỉ sau khi tất cả khách về nhà, chúng tôi mới có thể nghỉ ngơi).

6. Only when + Clause (chỉ đến khi) = Not until
Ex: Only when he is here, does he speak Chinese.
(Chỉ khi ông ta ở đây, ông ta mới nói tiếng Trung Quốc).

7. Only if + Clause (chỉ khi, nếu)
Với “only after”, “only when”, “only if”: khi trong câu có 2 mệnh đề thì dùng đảo ngữ ở mệnh đề thứ hai.
Ex: Only if you tell me the truth, can I forgive you.
(Chỉ khi bạn nói cho tôi sự thật, tôi mới có thể tha thứ cho bạn).
Lưu ý:
Nếu “only” bổ nghĩa cho chủ ngữ (chủ ngữ nằm ngay sau “only”) thì trong câu không có đảo ngữ.
Ex: Only he can speak English.
(Chỉ có anh ấy có thể nói tiếng Anh).
Only the special members can enter the club on Sundays.

He used to smoke 20 cigarettes a day. --> No longer/ Any longer does he smoke 20 cigarettes a day.
