''A saturated hydrocarbon contains only C and H and all C -----C bonds are single. In alkanes the C skeleton is open – chain; if the C’s are joined to form a ring, it is called a cycloalkane. They are “saturated” with hydrogen, meaning that with a very few exceptions they do not undergo a reaction with hydrogen''

Hydrocarbons can be defined as the organic compounds which are composed of mainly C and H. They are part of our everyday life in the form of LPG, gasoline etc. There are a large number of hydrocarbon compounds. The structures of hydrocarbons vary with number of Carbon atoms and also with different bonding. On the basis of structural bonding, hydrocarbons can be classified as open chain compounds and cyclic hydrocarbons.

Unsaturated hydrocarbons are hydrocarbons that have double or triple covalent bonds between adjacent carbon atoms. Those with at least one carbon-to-carbon double bond are called alkenes and those with at least one carbon-to-carbon triple bond are called alkynes. The position of the double or triple bond is shown by a number written either at the start of the name, or just before the -ene or -yne suffix (e.g. pent-2-ene and 2-butyne). The number represents the position of the first of the two carbons making the bond, in the longest carbon chain. Alkenes and alkynes with more than one double or triple bond respectively are named with a prefix preceding the -ene or -yne (e.g. 2,4-pentadiene).

An atom or group of atoms that replaces hydrogen in an organic compound. Functional groups define the structure of a family of compounds and determine its properties. The carboxyl and hydroxyl groups arefunctional groups that define the compounds they are part of as organic acids and alcohols, respectively.

In organic chemistry, functional groups are specific substituents or moieties within molecules that are responsible for the characteristic chemical reactions of those molecules. The same functional group will undergo the same or similar chemical reaction(s) regardless of the size of the molecule it is a part of.

In organic chemistry, functional groups are specific substituents or moieties within molecules that are responsible for the characteristic chemical reactions of those molecules. The same functional group will undergo the same or similar chemical reaction(s) regardless of the size of the molecule it is a part of. This allows for systematic prediction of chemical reactions and behavior of chemical compounds and design of chemical syntheses. Furthermore, the reactivity of a functional group can be modified by other functional groups nearby. In organic synthesis, functional group interconversion is one of the basic types of transformations.

nhầm :((.
The functional group is defined as an atom or group of atoms joined in a specific manner, which gives the chemical properties of the organic compound and are the centers for chemical reactivity.
