The human population on the planet is calculated at over 6 billion. Many experts believe this population may double in the next half-century. Humans are undoubtedly the 'rulers' of this earth, but we have not been good rulers. In fact in our years of monumental growth as a species, our relationship to our kingdom, the earth, can best be described as parasitic. A parasite is an organism that is dependent on another for its existence without making a useful or adequate return.
It is not hard to see how well we fit this description. Unfortunately this definition is incomplete in our case. Not only are we dependent on the earth and are depleting her resources at alarming rates, but also we are bringing the earth to her knees by the sheer volume of our by-products; our garbage, toxic wastes and pollution. It would not take a genius to figure out that such a relationship cannot survive; yet the majority of the world's population are totally uncaring people...

More than two hundred years ago, the term “environment pollution” was quite strange to people.
“What are we doing to our environment?
We are destroying the forests
We are wasting too much water
We are burning to must coat, oil and gas
We are producing to must trash.
We are destroying wild animals and plants
This is polluting the air with gases
We are producing to must trash
This is polluting the land, the river and the ocean.

1. They lived healthily, drank pure water and breathed fresh air. Nowadays, the situation is quite different. People all over the world are worried about things that are happening to the environment. Actually it is man that is destroying the surroundings with many kind of wastes. Every body knows that motorbikes and cars emit dangerous gases, that cause poisonous air and cancer, but no one wants to travel on foot or bicycle. Manufactures know that wastes from factories make water and soil polluted, but they do not want to spend a lot of their money on treating the wastes safely. Scattering garbage is bad for our health, but no one wants to spend time buying it. It is worth talking a lot about pollution?

2. Every day on radio, TV and in the new papers, we hear, see or read about many problems in the world, for example, pollution problems.

Air pollution is the first kind. It mostly comes from fumes released from motorbike, cars, airplanes, trains and poisonous gases emitted from factories. Also, waste is dumped any where, even in the city where many people are living. The second pollution problem is sea pollution. Many people earn their living from fishing in the sea, and the fish they catch feed many people. But the sea has become so pollution from oil spills and factory waste that the fish are dying. This pollution is not only killing the fish, but it also affecting those people who eat fish.
Seldom do you find a place nowadays that is not polluted. This problem is growing more difficult every day. We must find a good solution that makes the world a better place to live.

3. Our oceans are becoming extremely polluted. Most of this pollution come from the land, which means it comes from people. Firstly, there is raw sewage, which is pumped directly in the sea. Many countries, both developed and developing are guilty of doing this. Secondly, ships drop about 6 million tons of garbage into the sea each year. Thirdly, there are oil spills from ships. A ship has an accident and oil leaks from the vessel. This is not only pollutes the water, but it also kills marine life. Next, there are waste materials from factories. Without proper regulations, factory owners let the waste run directly into the rivers, which the leads to the sea. And finally, oil is washed from land. This can be the result of carelessness or a deliberate dumping of waste.

4. In Western countries, electricity, gas and water are not luxuries but necessities. Companies now realize that consumers want products that will not only work effectively, but also save money.
For most North American households, lighting accounts for 10 percent to 15 percent of the electricity bill. However, this amount can be reduce by replacing an ordinary 100 – watt light bulb with an energy –saving bulb. These bulbs use a quarter of the electricity of standard bulbs and last eight times longer. The label tells the consumer how much energy efficiency each model has, compared with other appliances in the same category.

Ultimately, there innovations will save money as well as conserve the earth’s resource.
