3) Talking about natural disasters and ways to prepare for them
There are lots of natural disasters such as: tornado, tsunami, earthquake, forest fire,...But the natural disaster I want to talk to you is flood. A flood is an overflow of a large amount of water beyond its normal confines, especially over what is normally dry land. It can also occur in rivers, when the strength of the river is so high it flows right out of the river channel. This is far more likely to happen when there is a great deal of heavy rain.In short, natural disaster happen all over the world and they can cause the loss of life and damage to property.
We should watch weather forecast regularly, prepare the tent, food, medical supplies, flashlight, clothes and money, prepare a safe shelter and small boat, etc.

Are you prepared for a natural disaster?

I live on an island with an active volcano. It would be foolish not to prepare. But, I haven’t done so. Have you?

Even though we’ve had two tsunami warnings and two small (4.5 and 4.9) earthquakes in the last year, until the disaster in Japan, my mind did not turn to disaster preparedness.

Thailand, Katrina, Haiti, Queensland, Christchurch, Japan. Disasters seem to be happening in rapid succession. It’s possible more are on the way. We don’t need to panic. But, it’s clear we need to prepare.

10 Basic Tips to Prepare for a Disaster
So how do you prepare for a disaster? This is what I’ve learned from my recent research.

Disaster preparedness is actual complex if you start thinking about actions like bolting down your gas water heater and bracing overhead light fixtures. All these types of actions are important to consider, but the first step is to create a disaster preparedness kit.

The following tips cover only the essential items you need to help you cope in response to a disaster. There’s more to consider, but these steps will give you a good start. Remember, the bottom line is water, food, and shelter. In Japan, more than 2 million people are without water. Another 500,000 are homeless. These are real possibilities. So focus on the priorities first. Then, add the other items to your kit.

Keep your supplies in an easy to carry kit. There’s actually quite a lot on this list so use your imagination when it comes to an appropriate container. Store your kit in an accessible place, one that will be within reach once a disaster strikes. It’s also wise to have a set of basic emergency supplies in your car and at work.

These are the most essential items:

1. Water

1-2 gallons of water per person, per day. A 3-day supply for evacuation, a two-week supply at home.

2. Food

Easy to prepare, non perishable items and a mechanical can opener. Canned soup, meat, vegetables, and fruit. A 3-day supply for evacuation, a two-week supply at home. For food preparation, have on hand a simple barbeque, charcoal and starter fuel or 1 propane unit with 2 canisters of propane and some basic cooking utensils. Don’t forget waterproof matches or lighters.

3. Shelter

An emergency blanket, sleeping bag or regular blankets, and tent.

4. Medical

First aid kit, a supply of essential medicines for at least a week, other crucial medical supplies like an inhaler.

5. Light

Flashlights, extra batteries, and extra bulbs. Candles. Waterproof matches or lighter.

6. Radio

A battery-powered AM/FM radio.

7. Cash

Cash machines won’t work without electricity. Have a minimum of $50 on hand in small bills plus phone change.

8. Cell Phone and Charger

Although a cell phone may not work in a disaster, it might also be your line to life-saving support.

9. Sanitation and Personal Hygiene Items

Toilet paper, toothbrush, soap and other essential supplies.

10. Personal Documents

Driver’s license, birth certificate, passports, insurance policies, proof of address or lease, medication list and medical information, copies of credit cards, checks.

Everyone’s situation will vary so you need to adapt the list to your own circumstances and the types of disasters that might occur in your region. If you are able to drive, there’s no guarantee you will be able to obtain gas since fuel pumps depend upon electricity.

In addition to creating a disaster preparedness kit with the items like the ones listed above, the Red Cross also recommends taking time to:

  • create an emergency plan with your family;
  • educate yourself and your family about the type of disasters that might occur in your community;
  • have one household member trained in first aid and CPR/AED.
Overwhelmed, hesitant, or indifferent? Some of us find it challenging to prepare for a disaster. What holds us back? The Vizier explored this question in his excellent article 5 Factors that Hinder Preparations. You might want to start there if you find the thought of disaster preparation difficult to embrace.

Keeping It Simple
I suggest tying to prepare in a simple but complete way. Do only the necessary without going overboard. Given the fragility of the environment, it’s not useful to over-buy unnecessary, ecologically unsound items.

Not all the supplies above will necessarily make the grade from a green living perspective. I would love to hear your suggestions for a greener approach to disaster preparedness.

There’s more to disaster preparation that this basic list, but I hope this list will inspire you to begin or fine tune your preparations further.

Life is precious. Preparation saves lives. It’s that simple.

Water pollution has become a growing concern over the last century as more and more waste is being disposed of in our oceans, rivers and lakes.

This increase in pollution is harming our food supplies, drinking water and environment.

It is also creating issues in the oceans ecosystem and hurting the animals and plant life that rely on the ocean and rivers for their survival.

This article will provide you with an in depth explanation of what water pollution is, the causes and effects associated with water pollution and what can be done to prevent or even reverse the condition of water pollution.

Water pollution may be caused by any hazardous substance or material that makes contact with the earths water supply.

This may include oil from oil tankers and oil refineries, garbage from construction sites, city streets and residential lawns, improper disposal of hazardous materials from garbage disposal companies, chemical spills and improper chemical disposal, sewage leaks and agricultural runoffs just to name a few.

Water pollution is generally caused by human actives but may also be caused by natural resources.

When water is polluted it is usually defined as either being polluted from point sources or non point sources.

Point source pollution occurs from a specific location by a single source such as a large factory, oil refinery or hauling ship that contributed a massive amount of pollution within a single area.

This large scale pollution can then be spread across large bodies of water affecting many miles of water, agricultural land, animal habitats and oceanic ecosystems.

Non point source pollution can occur from many different areas that all contribute to a body of water.

This can occur from large neighborhoods with poor residential lawn quality from sewage leaks and other types of contaminants, city streets where garbage and chemicals are not disposed of properly and large agricultural areas that use harmful chemicals which runoff into a body of water and contribute to other sources of water pollution.

When people rely on a specific body of water for drinking, cleaning and other purposes and that water becomes polluted it can become a major issue.

Once water becomes polluted it becomes unsafe for consumption due to the dangerous or toxic materials that are contained within the water.

If contaminated water is consumed it could lead to sickness, infections, exposure to diseases and even death.

While pollution is a growing concern determining what water is polluted isn’t always easy when observed by the naked eye or our taste buds.

Water may appear to be clean for consumption however it may have hidden pollutants that can affect our bodies as well as animals, plants and various other organisms.

In order to determine the health of water (especially clear, clean looking water) researchers and scientists often need to perform special tests.

If the water is considered contaminated it will need to go through a filtration and removal process before it can become drinkable or even sustainable for numerous animal species that inhibit that body of water.

Sadly the issue of water pollution is even more severe in third world countries where there is no way to properly dispose of poisonous chemicals/materials and polluted water cannot easily be cleaned or treated.

In these countries people often end up reusing polluted water which can lead to many of the issues described previously such as birth deformities, sickness, disease and death.

In addition to being affected by water pollution these countries do not have the medical staff or antibiotics necessary to deal with those who become sick and ill from water pollution.

Finding a way to develop cheap filtration systems and better waste disposal management systems is going to be a vital step towards improving the health of our drinking water and the bodies of water that surround us.

If you would like to limit the amount of pollution you produce and thus help keep the oceans, rivers and lakes clean there are a number of things you can do.

  • Keep your car well maintained and immediately service it if you notice any oil leaking from the car
  • Replace your air fresheners with eco-friendly candles, incense and/or potpourri
  • Purchase environmentally friendly cleaning products that do not harm the land if they happen to be flushed or emptied into a drain
  • Reduce the amount of power you use and purchase energy saving light bulbs and appliances. This helps reduce the amount of emissions being released by utility companies and your own home products.
  • Conserve your water usage and don’t leave water running when you are not using it
  • Reduce, recycle & reuse materials that you have purchased. Plastics and papers may be sent to the recycling bin while some of your glass materials may be able to be reused or re-purposed
  • Make sure non recyclable waste is contained properly so that it does not spill into the land, street drain sewage drain
  • Purchase local food that has been grown from healthy agricultural farms that don’t use polluting fertilizers and pesticides
  • Purchase eco-friendly lawn fertilizers and pesticides for your own lawn in order to prevent your lawn from becoming toxic and prevent possible hazardass chemicals from entering street drains
  • Recycle old clothing by giving it away to shelters and non for profit re sellers. Not only does it lower the amount of garbage you produce it also allows you go give to a cause and help the community
  • Use a reusable grocery bag rather than the plastic bags offered at grocery stores when shopping for food to minimize your plastic waste
  • Eliminate unnecessary mail and have your bills sent to you by email. This helps protect the trees and reduce the amount of paper you have to dispose of later
  • Properly dispose of toxic chemicals rather than dropping them down the drain. You can do an online search for local toxic chemical disposal areas near you
As you can see there are a lot of things you can do to help reduce the amount of pollution you produce.

Even if you only implement a few of these strategies you could end up reducing a ton of waste and unnecessary garbage that is created in daily life.

The UK is one of the English speaking countries. The UK consists of England, Wales and Scotland. The UK also includes Northern Ireland. The people here live very peaceful. There are many festivals, but I like the cake festival most.
On the third day of confession, the day before the Vegetarian Festival Lent in the United Kingdom, people usually celebrate pastry festivals.
On the fourth century, Christianity held a 40-day vegetarian Lent, and this was the period when people were eating and running. Often people eat their brakes and enjoy themselves before the Lent begins. And the third day of confession is often called the feast of feasts because of the banned fat on Lent must be consumed. Everyone took out the eggs and the daily food left in the kitchen to make delicious cakes.

The origin of the festival is that each mouthful of a woman is making pastries when the bell rings. In order not to be late, she just had a cake and ran into the church. Since then, people in this area have pastry festivals.

However, this run is only for women. You will follow the path of knowing beforehand into the church and have to throw hot cake in hand at least 3 times. Whoever runs to the final destination will be the winner.
It is also an extremely beautiful country and quite famous.
