MAN: Did you watch that film on Channel 4 last night?
WOMAN: What, the Italian one?
MAN: Yeah.
WOMAN: Yeah, it's amazing, isn't it?
MAN: Was that the first time ...
WOMAN: No, I'd seen it before, years ago, but I'd forgotten how intelligent and complex it is.
MAN: It's fabulous isn't it?
WOMAN: Yes, it's got all those layers to it, and, you know, for a black and white film made almost 50 years ago, it was incredibly ahead of its time ... all that stuff about celebrities and the paparazzi.
MAN: Yes, I know what you mean. Though the funny thing was, when I saw it this time, I thought it was rather ambiguous
WOMAN: Ambiguous?
MAN: Yes, in the sense that you're never quite sure if the director, Fellini, is celebrating that sort of thing or condemning it.
WOMAN: Oh, I'd say it's very much the latter. I mean, to me, it has a strong moral tone. No doubt about it.
MAN: Perhaps you're right, though somehow I didn't feel that very clearly.
WOMAN: But the other thing that really strikes me about it is how well Fellini uses the whole medium of film. I mean, the imagery in some of those scenes and sequences is incredible .. it's like a painting, but in the form of a movie.
MAN: Yes, he was a wonderful director.

Two people are talking about an old film that they both watched recently. What does the woman say about the film?
$A$. She thinks that the film makes a very clear statement.
$B$. She thinks the film operates at a simple level.
$C$. She thinks that the film is visually weak.
$D$. She thinks it looks rather out-of-date.
