LESSON 1​

It’s lunch break. Lillian and Matt are in the playground talking about their weekend.
Lillian: Last Saturday I invited some friends to visit me and we just stayed at home. You know, we usually meet at the shopping centre or we go jogging in the park but this time I was so tired that I preferred not to go out. We watched a good film and ate popcorn. It was fun.
Matt: But why were you so tired?
Lillian: Well, during the week I am always very busy after school. I have guitar lessons and basketball practice three times a week. After that I get home and I usually study. Last week I had a Math and a Science test, so I had to study a lot.
Matt: I’ve got to admit that I am very lazy, so the best thing for me is to spend my free time at home sitting in front of the TV. I also like to have my laptop with me and I am always surfing the net or checking my Facebook page.
Lillian: But this way you don’t hang out with your friends and you don’t exercise.
Matt: You’re right about exercising but I often meet my friends. For example, last Sunday I was on Facebook keeping in touch with my friends. I am always with them online. Come on, don’t look at me like that. I know it’s not the same thing as being face-to-face with them but that’s how I like it.
Lillian: Well, I have to say that’s too dull for me. You would feel healthier and have more fun if you went out with your friends. You can always experience something new. Why don’t you go cycling with them next week?

LESSON 2​

Do you have any favourite things? Write what your favourite thing is and why it’s special. Was it from a special person, do you have fun with it?
These are some sample passages
1. What’s my favourite thing? That’s easy, it has to be my bike. I’m really into cycling and I’ve got a fantastic bike. I got it a few years ago for my birthday but it’s really good. I got out cycling nearly every day and at the weekends I love to go cycling in the forest with my friends. I’m interested in all kinds of sport, I also like tennis. .........
2. My favourite thing is a necklace with a small heart on it. I love it because my grandmother gave it to me and she’s really special. I love her so much. The necklace is made of silver and it sparkles when I move, I wear it all the time but not when I’m at school, I don’t want to lose it............
3. I have a pair of trainers which are my favourite things. They are very old now but I always play well when I wear them so I think they are lucky! When I have a football game I always wear them. I do have other new trainers but they aren’t as comfortable as my old ones. I think lots of football players have special trainers like me...
4. On my last birthday my parents gave me a fantastic camera which is my favourite thing. It takes amazing photos and when I go out, I always take it with me. I take photos of everything, people, animals and nature. I have started to enter competitions now as it’s great fun. I think when I finish my studies I may work as a photographer on a newspaper or magazine......
