The internet has dramatically altered our lives over the past few decades. Although some of these changes have been negative, the overall effect of this technology has been positive. What are your opinions on this? (Write at least 250 words)

The internet has dramatically altered our lives over the past few decades. Although some of these changes have been negative, the overall effect of this technology has been positive. What are your opinions on this? (Write at least 250 words)

Since the first appearance in some decades ago, the Internet has dramatically changed our lives. Yet, this phenomenon has brought about many arguments as to whether this trend is positive or negative. While some strong opinions has been raised, I believe that the drawbacks of this technology is far outweighed by its benefits. The reasons are listed below.

First and foremost, the Internet has ultimately revolutionized the ways of communication. In the past, people used to be dependent on conventional mailing system which were expensive, inconvenient and time-consuming. On the contrary, today’s people find it comfortable to enjoy themselves with instant message, free internet calling and social network. Admittedly, there is a risk of social isolation – when the internet users unconsciously spend to excess time on the virtual world – people in general are benefited greatly from the Internet.

Equally important, from the economic perspective, the global trade has been enhanced dramatically thanks to this technological breakthrough. If the old world of economies was dominated by physical stores and retailers, the today’s words is an era of internet-based companies, for example, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook, Twister…No wonder, these commercials are playing a role as a driving force of international business, promoting free trade between nations, boosting economic growth. Customers nowadays can easily conduct a business transaction at home with a connected computer and make a payment by using internet banking service. Yet, safety on the Internet has been a problem of concern, however, the customers can protect themselves by strengthening security code and installing internet security software.

By way of conclusion, I would once again reaffirm that the positive side of the Internet has totally surpass its disadvantaged side due to the point demonstrated above. To exploit ultimately the advantage and dismiss the unfavourable impact of the Internet, government guidance and regulations are called for.

I strongly believe that the merits of the Internet could outweigh its drawbacks. One reason is that the huge source of information on the Internet has benefited people from working and studying more efficiently since we could find almost everything relating to all of the aspects on the Internet. Another reason is that people could make use of the social media on the Internet to keep in touch with their beloved ones as well as make new friends regardless of far distance. For example, using Facebook is the best way for me to discuss everything about my assignments at school with my friends as well as look for some job opportunities.
In conclusion, despite having some negative impacts, I would contend that the Internet has significantly changed people’s life in positive ways.
