The few advantages are obvious:
- open space & proximity to nature
- opportunity for self-reliance
The many disadvantages are not so obvious
- there are few opportunities for employment
- you spend all day on an errand to get provisions or medical care
- your children have fewer educational opportunities
- there is no anonymity, everyone knows you
Consider this: most people who live in the countryside grew up there and remained there because they had no opportunities elsewhere. The few people who purchase property in a rural area and move out there to live do it part-time, maintaining an urban residence and source of income.
