Despite the variety here and there, the typical marriage customs in Viet Nam proceed through three stages: before the wedding, during the wedding, and after the wedding. Before getting married, most couples have their engagement period which may vary from several months to several years, depending on their individual preferences. When the couples are ready for their marriage life, it is the right time for the wedding ceremony which can be held either in church or at home, depending on the couples' religions and family traditions. Following the ceremony is usually the reception which can be in a hotel with the foods and drinks provided by some catering services providers. The guests to the wedding usually give the couples money as gifts to help them cover their expenses. After the wedding, the couples may take their time by going on their honeymoon in a place of their interests to start a new life together.
