It is not a good system simply because having someone to rule everyone else’s lives is a bad idea. People have brains and a degree of intelligence, they are not cattle to be herded by someone. Even a good monarch is nothing but a nicer cowherd.
The partial exception is the modern European monarchy where the monarch’s role is mostly symbolic, then the question is what reason, other than tradition, do they have to keep the system?
