(1) The market for tourism in remote areas was booming as never before.
(2) Countries all across the world are active promoting their ‘wilderness’
(3) Regions - such as mountain , Artic islands, deserts, small islands, and
(4) Wetlands - to highly - spending tourists. The attraction of these areas is
(5) obvious: by defining, wilderness tourism requires little or no initial
(6) Investment. But that doesn't mean that there is no cost. Like the 1992,
(7) United Nations Conference on Environment and Development recognized,
(8) These regions are fragile( i.e. highly vulnerable of abnormal pressures) not
(9) just in terms of their ecology, but also in terms of the culture of their
(10) inhabitation. The three most significant types of fragile environment in
(11) these respects, and also in terms of proportion of the Earth’s surface
(12) they cover, are deserts, mountains, and Artic islands areas. An important character
(13) is their marked seasonality, with harsh conditions prevailing for many
(14) months each year. Consequently, most human acts, including tourism, are
(15) limited to quite clearly defined parts of the year.
(16) Tourists are drawn to these regions by their natural landscape beauty and
(17) the unique cultures of its indigenous people. And poor governments in
(18) these isolated areas have welcomed the new breed of’ adventure tourist’,
(19) grateful for the hard currency they bring. For several years now, tourism
(20) has been the prime source of foreign exchange in Nepal and Bhutan.
(21) Tourism is also a key element In the economics of Artic zones such as
(22) Lapland and Alaska and in desert areas such as Ayers Rock in Australia
(23) and Arizona’s Monument Valley.
