+Present participles
*Cấu tạo: Present participle = V-ing
*Cách dùng:
_Hiện tại phần từ (Present participle) được dùng sau BE để hình thành các dạng thì tiếp diễn.
Ví dụ: - He is reaing books in the library at the moment.
- She has been studying Japanese for more than one year now.
- What exactly were you doing when I came in the office yesterday ?
- The man had been following me during these days.
_Hiện tại phân từ (Present participle) thường được dùng để thay thế cho mệnh đề.
Ví dụ: - Walking in the park the other day, I saw a bird building a nest.
(= I was walking and I saw a bird builing a nest.)
- Lying in bed, the girl was thinking of her childhood.
(= The girl was lying in bed, She was thinking of her childhood.)
-The girl standing (=who was standing) behind the counter looks very lovely.
- After having finished (= After I had finished) my homework, I watched TV.
_Hiện tại phân từ: (Present participle) còn được dùng như tính từ.
Ví dụ: - Indian art is interesting.
- The news wass surprising.
- I love the sight of running water.
- He's the most boring man I've ever known.
2. perfect participle
Khi một hành động xảy ra trước một hành động khác, chúng ta dùng perfect participle (having done) cho hành động đầu tiên.
Ví dụ: - Having found a hotel, we looked for somewhere to have dinner.
- having finished her worrk, she went home.
*Lưu ý: - Chúng ta có thể dùng after -ing thay cho cho having done trong các cấu trúc trên.
Ví dụ: After finishing her work, she went home.
Nếu một hành động xảy ra gần như cùng một lúc (ranh giới thời gian không rõ rệt), hay vì dùng having done thì chúng ta có thể dùng - doing cho hành động đầu tiên.
Ví dụ: Taking a key out of his pocket, he opened the door.
