a. Yes – No question
Direct: S + V + (O) : “Aux. V + S + V1 + ….?”
Indirect: S + asked + O + if / whether + S + V + ….

b. Wh – question
Direct: S + V + (O): “Wh- + Aux. V + S + V1 + …?”
Indirect: S + asked + O + Wh- + S + V + ….
Hướng dẫn:

Xác định câu trần thuật thuộc dạng nào: Trong câu trực tiếp có how many nên là Wh – question.
Xác định thành phần: chủ từ là Henry, tân ngữ(O) là the librarian. Wh-question là How many.
Áp dụng cấu trúc ta được: Henry said to the the librarian hơ many books he could(lùi thì của can) borrow at a time.
3."These old buildings might have already disappeared by the time i am back next year " he said.
=>Ha said (that) those old buildings might had already disappeared by the time he was back the following year(theo quy tắc thay đổi trang từ).
