Các bạn có biết ý nghĩa của cụm từ "Functions of Modal Verbs" có nghĩa là gì không?
- Cụm từ "Functions of Modal Verbs" có nghĩa là trợ động từ trong Tiếng Anh. Vậy các trợ động từ là: can, could, must, will, would, shall, should, may, might, ought to, ..... Ví dụ:
Q: Can she play tennis?
A: No she can't play tennis but she can play golf.

Chúng ta nói về khả năng của một ai đó với:
+ Can (Khả năng ở hiện tại hoặc tương lai). Ví dụ:
Q: Can you swim?
A: No, I can't. I can run fast although.
+ could/was able to (Khả năng ở trong quá khứ về hành động lặp đi lặp lại). Ví dụ:
- She could/was able to dance for hours when she was young. (hành động lặp đi lặp lại)
+ was able to (= managed to) (Khả năng ở trong quá khứ về hành động lặp đi lặp lại và một hành động đơn)
- He was able to win the race. (Hành động đơn) (KHÔNGHe could win the race.)
NHƯNG: I couldn't/wasn't able to finh my keys. (Hành động đơn)
He couldn't/wasn't able to ski when he was young. (Hành động lặp đi lặp lại)
II. Bài tập ứng dụng
1. Fill in: can, could or be able to in the correct tense.
