Conventional wisdom dictates that exercise plays an important role in weight loss. But a recent

ourselves for our hard work. So, weight loss is hardly facilitated by exercise, as calories gained by
compensatory eating more than make up for the calories lost during a (7.vigor)……………….. workout. Were
it not for its flawed nature, exercising self-discipline would assist in negating this counter-productive
(8.activity)……………….. . However, self-discipline is, according to psychologists, like a muscle, which
weakens once it has been used. So frequent use of it leads to an inevitable weakening of resolve. For this
reason, if you're pushing yourself too hard at the gym, and you've managed to resist (9. tempt)………………..
once too often, chances are, you'll soon be reaching out (10. impulse)……………….. for that slice of
cheesecake.
