The bar chart shows the numbers in thousands of students who chose to study different university subjects in 2005. The numbers for each subject are divided into male and female students and show some general differences between men’s and women’s choice of subjects. There are clear differences between male and female students.
Fluctuating numbers of males chose university subjects. The number ranged from the highest with over 20 thousand to the lowest with just 2 thousand, a difference of 18 thousand. Males chose Sciences, Mathematics and Literature the most. However, there were not many males choosing Languages with only 2 thousand and Arts with 3 thousand.
Unlike males, the numbers of females who preferred Social Sciences are the highest with nearly 25 thousand. Females did not like much Mathematics and Arts with only 4 thousand and 9 thousand people. Languages were the second popular subject with females. The numbers of females who chose this subject were around 18 thousand.
