- for + khoảng thời gian: for 2 years.
Từ câu ở thì QKĐ, muốn chuyển sang câu ở thì HTHT thì:
- in -> since
- ago -> for

Mình nghĩ nên là như thế này:
David failed the exam because of his laziness.
=> Because David was lazy, he failed the exam.
Theo như ta thấy thì đề cho 'failed' ở thì QKĐ, có nghĩa là việc đã xảy ra rồi, nên việc anh ta lười biếng cũng xảy ra rồi => chia QKĐ
