A Traditional British Meal
There is nothing the British like more than fish and chips, but where does this dish come from?
Fried chips were invented by the French and they became cheap and popular in the north of England in the nineteenth century. Around the same time fried fish was introduced to London, and somebody decided to put the fried fish and chips $...........$. In 1863 a man called Mr Lees first sold fish and chips in his local market. He later moved the business to a small shop. It had a sign in the window saying "This is the first fish and chip shop in the world".
Today there are thousands of fish and chip shops across the UK.
